Corrections: The ferry's last eastbound run, the spelling of a treasurer's name, and the type of screws used in the bandstand repair
This newspaper regrets errors published in three recent editions and offers the following corrections.
The Lake Hollis ferry schedule
In our April 11 report on proposed changes to the Lake Hollis ferry schedule ("Ferry board considers eliminating Tuesday morning eastbound crossing"), we stated that the last eastbound departure on a Tuesday occurred on March 19, 2024. The last eastbound Tuesday departure was March 12, 2024. March 19 was a Wednesday. The ferry did not operate on Tuesday, March 19, because March 19 was not a Tuesday. We apologize for the error.
Additionally, the article stated that ridership on Tuesday eastbound crossings averaged 3.7 passengers per crossing during the 2023 season. The correct average was 3.4 passengers. The figure of 3.7 passengers represents the average for Wednesday eastbound crossings. The newspaper regrets conflating data from two separate days of the week.
Further, we reported that the ferry board would vote on the schedule change at its April meeting. The board will consider the matter at its May meeting. April's agenda is devoted to dock maintenance and the replacement of life rings, as stated in the meeting notice published in our March 28 edition, which this reporter evidently did not consult before writing the April 11 article.
Tamarack Township treasurer
Our April 14 Community Notes column referred to Tamarack Township Treasurer Marlene Vossler as "Marlene Vossner." Ms. Vossler has served as township treasurer since 2018. Her name is spelled Vossler. It has always been spelled Vossler. The newspaper has spelled it correctly in seventeen previous mentions across six years of coverage. We have no explanation for the April 14 error and apologize to Ms. Vossler.
The Holcomb Memorial Bandstand
In our April 18 article on repairs to the Holcomb Memorial Bandstand ("Township crew completes bandstand railing work ahead of Memorial Day concert"), we reported that the railing was reattached using galvanized deck screws. The screws were stainless steel, not galvanized. Township maintenance supervisor Gerald Prine provided this specification in a phone interview on April 16, and this reporter wrote it down correctly in notes from that conversation. The error was introduced during transcription.
The article also stated that the railing repair required 112 screws. The correct number is 121 screws. The discrepancy arose from counting screws in only seven of the eight railing sections. Mr. Prine's invoice, which was provided to this newspaper and remains on file, clearly lists 121 screws. We apologize for the error.
The article correctly reported the length of the screws (2.5 inches), the cost of the screws ($47.83), and the date the work was completed (April 15, 2024).
